A Lodging Find: the Inn at Avila Beach

The Inn at Avila Beach was an unexpected and wonderful find – and not just because they give you fresh-baked cookies and pies every night (though, that does deserve a special thumbs up in the amenities department). It’s a warm and inviting hotel with management that goes out of its way to make guests feel comfortable and just a little bit pampered.

This beachside retreat has everything from a rooftop patio (with chairs, couches, grills and movie viewing perch) to a complete library of free movies for your in-room entertainment. The communal lounge has been recently renovated and is the perfect spot to watch a game while partaking in that free pie I mentioned (seriously, though, fresh-baked pies every night). You can also take your treats to your room, of course, but we chose to hang out in the booth and chat with the other guests.

The staff is incredibly helpful, providing great tips for where to go to eat and where to wander. Avila Beach itself is very small, but even here the insider tips are welcome!

Interestingly, the Ocean Front Suites are about to see some major renovation. The theme rooms have already gone through the transition (and look amazing), and were pretty tempting, but we opted for one of the older rooms so that we could open the balcony doors and fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean.

I understand that the room we stayed in, and others like it, are slated for renovation in 2015, and will feature fireplaces and new bathrooms. If the room renovation is anything like the lobby enhancements, they will be spectacular. As they are now, while everything is very clean, you definitely tell that the bathrooms are in need of an update. Still, everything works, and we loved having so much lounging room near the balcony doors because the views were thoroughly mesmerizing. And yes, that means I got zero work done, but it’s a sacrifice I’m more than willing to make again!
