Restaurant Review: Original Jack’s Country Kitchen

One of our favorite restaurants in Avalon was Original Jack’s Country Kitchen. Casual, inexpensive and cozy, Jack’s welcomed us to the island. The waitstaff was very friendly, and we even caught up with other travelers there – unusual for me, but the place just inspired sharing and camaraderie. And, of course, the food was delicious!

Jack’s is ideal for breakfasts and lunches on the island. Open even on Christmas, you will find a steady flow of customers – locals and tourists. We visited the spot twice during our three-day stay, and I went with breakfast food on both occasions (one late lunch and again early on Christmas day). However, I saw a number of lunch specials that I’m determined to try the next time we travel over to Catalina.

The décor reminds of old-time diners (Andy and I are big fans of the style). The booths are comfortable, and the location is ideal – downtown on Catalina Avenue, just a block or so off the water (and no hills to climb). Service is fast, and, as I mentioned, if you want to know something about the town, the island, or get recommendations, just ask.

As you can tell, I’m a fan, and I recommend stopping in at Original Jack’s Country Kitchen whenever you are in Avalon.
