2025 New Year’s Resolutions

I believe that my best success with New Year’s resolutions comes from setting intentions and starting the year as I mean to go on. In some years, I have been highly detailed in my plans. In other years, I’ve just made plans to survive it. This year feels like a combination of both. Let’s see what shakes out!

Blog!

Blog!My initial New Year’s resolution was to “write every day.”  I like the idea of it. It felt particularly good after a glass of Champagne. I know that I will not write on this blog every day. But I’d like to write more. I want to add variety. I want to create video content to support the gardening and organization content. I’d love to get back to adding travel info for all of you. So, instead of “write every day,” I want to “write more often and provide more valuable work.”

Write Creatively

I’m pledging to write one creative thing every month in 2025. Is that an entire script? Certainly not every month, but there is a possibility that one of those months could involve longer work. But I would feel good if I wrote a creative essay, poem, or thought-let. I’d feel good if I tried.

Make a Better Gardening Plan

I’d love to grow more of our own food. Mostly, I’d like to grow enough that we can plan meals around it rather than getting a handful of peas at a time. The good news is that the Meyer lemon tree is already fruiting, and one of the blueberry bushes has a ton of buds. I need to create some gardening intentions along with the chaos planting.

This year, we have the cold frame already, so there is no good reason not to get things started by February outside and as soon as possible inside. Did I mention that AeroGarden isn’t going out of business after all? That will definitely help support our spinach habits!

No More Waiting

I’m so tired of waiting for someone else to bless my work. I’m tired of waiting for the “perfect time” to make changes in the cottage. I’m tired of waiting to hear what other people think before I do things. It’s true – getting those blessings can come with the money to pursue the bigger goals. But there are small things I can now. Today. In about an hour.

Re-Engage

I am an introvert. I like quiet times at home with Andy. I like being inside my own head. But I think I was onto something when I wrote about taking advantage of the cultural opportunities, work possibilities, and soul-filling indulgences in the fall (Here’s that blog) We started doing this a little bit during the fall. Then, I got bogged down in health issues, and I lost momentum. We picked it up again during December, and I want to roll into January looking for ways to connect.

Podcast Like Nobody is Listening

Do I want to podcast? Do I want to set up a Patreon about decluttering, minimalism, and organization? Do I want to do a fiction podcast? Maybe I’ll continue to provide shorts through YouTube. Perhaps I’ll film a stand-up routine (ha, probably not). Maybe I’ll do it all. No matter what, one of my New Year’s resolutions is to try new platforms and/or new mediums.

Keep Going

There are days where just putting one foot in front of the other is a huge win. I’m going to be grateful for every day I can do that.

These are my thoughts on the direction of my New Year’s resolutions for 2025. And if you know me, you know that the next few days will involve making lists, plans, and garden maps. And lots and lots of indulgent good food.
